FILE TO READING
Convert SRT or VTT subtitles to EPUB
A practical guide to turning subtitle files into a chaptered ebook without keeping timestamps in every sentence.
Which files work?
SRT and WebVTT contain caption text and timing information. TXT files contain plain text. Margin Reader supports UTF-8 files up to 180,000 characters and 15,000 words. Timed subtitle files must describe no more than 60 minutes of video.
What changes during cleanup?
Timing lines and numeric SRT cue markers are removed. Caption text is merged into readable paragraphs. Consecutive identical caption lines are collapsed. Words are preserved as far as the source formatting allows; review the preview for unusual caption formats.
Chapters without invented headings
Automatic chapters are numbered and grouped by approximate word count. They are reading breaks rather than claims about the meaning of the video. You can edit the transcript and select the preferred chapter size before export.
Take the file with you
EPUB is a reflowable format. Change font size and spacing in your reader. Import it directly into a compatible Kobo or EPUB application, or use Amazon Send to Kindle for a Kindle library. Files remain in your Margin Reader library for seven days.
